ArtBridge + El Bohio:
RFQ for mural at 605 East 9th Street, East Village
OVERVIEW
What: RFQ for 5 muralists with strong local ties, who will each hand-paint their own 15 ft x 8 ft murals (120 sq ft) on a ground level, plywood construction shed.
Application deadline: September 24, 2026, 11:59pm
Application notification: October 1, 2026 (estimate)
Target installation: late October 2026
Budget: each of the 5 artists will receive $1,500, plus up to $500 in supply costs.
Site prep: ArtBridge will provide all site prep (including priming), permits, and insurance.
Intellectual property: Artist will retain all rights to any mural design proposed or installed.
Description: ArtBridge is working with El Bohio to transform 80 linear feet of ground-level plywood construction shed of this historic building at 605 E 9th St. Formerly home to PS 64 and with a rich history of street art, this building is being converted into a new community center. We seek to create a group exhibition of 5 small, adjacent murals -- with each mural at 8 feet tall by 15 feet wide. The artists and murals should have strong connections to the East Village -- its cultural history and present.
Application: We are merely seeking examples of your existing work, and not mural proposals. If selected, you will then develop your mural design, which must comply with the parameters of the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs' City Canvas program.
Selection: A panel of local community stakeholders will select the 5 artists.
Eligibility:
- Must be an artist who has deep, meaningful connections to the East Village and/or Lower East Side.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
